2010-10-25 Lithuanian, Bulgarian and Slovakian Experts are Sharing the Nuclear Power Plants Decommissioning Experience

On 25-26 October a trilateral meeting of INPP, Bulgarian Kozloduy NPP and Slovakian Bohunice NPP decommissioning experts is organized at the State Enterprise Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (INPP). The objective of the meeting is to share the nuclear power plants decommissioning experience in such areas as decommissioning process planning, management principles and financing of this process, and radioactive waste treatment strategies.

The representatives of the Ministry of Energy, State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) and Central Project Management Agency (CPVA) also participate in the meeting.

On the first day of the event, when welcoming the meeting participants, the INPP Director General Osvaldas Čiukšys was glad that there was a good opportunity to share the experience and exchange information. According to O.Čiukšys, the Lithuanian, Bulgarian and Slovakian nuclear power plants decommissioning projects have a lot of common grounds, for example, the funding sources are the same, while only funds administrators differ. In case of Bulgaria and Slovakia the administrator is the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, while in Lithuania the bigger part of funds appropriated for decommissioning is administrated by CPMA.

“All of us have the same objective, i.e. to implement decommissioning projects in a safe and timely manner and utilize the resources appropriated for this purpose rationally. All of us are expecting negotiations on other financial projections, therefore, I think that this meeting is very useful for all participants,” – O.Čiukšys said.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that it was especially important to exchange information on projects coordination, administration, management, the situation of the most topical projects implementation and its control. All participants of the meeting agreed that for the purpose of better application of opportunities provided by a good practice of colleagues, it is important to organize such meetings on a regular basis.
