2010-11-18 Expert of Decommissioning of Nuclear Power Plants Will Work at INPP

Karsten Frank, an internationally recognized expert of decommissioning of nuclear power plants from Germany, will start working at SE Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (INPP) on 30 November 2010. Frank will participate in the activities related to the planning of the decommissioning process and its management, decommissioning projects coordination and solving of the questions regarding the implementation of the main INPP decommissioning projects B1 (Interim Spent Fuel Storage Facility) and B2/3/4 (Solid Waste Management and Storage Facilities).

Frank has 30-years experience in German company Energiewerke Nord GmbH (EWN GmbH) which operated the Greifswald Nuclear Power Plant. He has worked as a general expert, technical expert, consultant and project manager in the countries which operated or still operate reactors constructed in the former USSR – Armenia, Bulgaria, Russia, Ukraine.

Karsten Frank has a diploma in Thermal Physics and is valued by the specialists of the nuclear industry as professional in the fields of drafting of a nuclear power plant decommissioning strategy, planning and management of this process and also of management of the complex international technical projects implemented both at operating nuclear power plants and at shut down ones.

As an external expert Mr. Frank takes part in the various missions of the European Commission, the World Association of Nuclear Operators and International Atomic Energy Agency.

At the present time Mr. Frank is the head of the international projects at “EWN GmbH”

“EWN GmbH” is a German company dealing with the nuclear power plants decommissioning and radioactive waste management. Business of the company has started from decommissioning of WWER-440 serial reactors at Greifswald and reactors 70 MW WWER of prototype at Reinsberg. To date EWN group comprises of several companies involved in decommissioning of nuclear facilities in Greifswald, Reinsberg, Julich and Karlsruhe.
