2010-12-17 Permission to Carry out INPP Unit 2 Decomissioning Works is Received

SE Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (INPP) on 15 December has received the notification of State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) regarding the provision of permission to carry out Unit 2 decommissioning works.

This permission was provided by VATESI on 9 December after the change of conditions of validity of INPP issued license Nr. 2/2004 on INPP Unit 2 operation– hereby it is permitted to implement the project for Unit 2 decommissioning at the stage of defueling (U2DP0) prepared by INPP.

During implementation of project for Unit 2 decommissioning at the stage of defueling (2011-2016) the following works will be performed at INPP:

  • Operation and technical surveillance of operating systems;
  • Insulation and modification of systems for their decommissioning and, after receiving the permission, dismantling of them;
  • Defuelling of reactor and fuel storage pools and transportation of the fuel to the interim spent fuel storage facility being construction after the permission for its operation is received;
  • Management of waste formed during implementation of this project.
