2011-05-17 Ignalina NPP Management Informed About Implementation of WANO Recommendations

On 11 May State Enterprise Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant's (INPP) management sent a letter to the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) in which confirmed the INPP readiness to implement recommendations of Significant Operating Experience Report SOER 2011-2, which contain actions that WANO members are expected to implement.

It is affirmed in the letter, that the INPP focuses on safety and emergency preparedness related issues. For this reason, after the events occured at Fukushima NPP, on 30 March Ignalina NPP developed the medium-term "Plan of Additional INPP Safety Inspection and Analysis" and started its implementation. The letter emphasized, that the plan had been developed taking into account not only Fukushima NP experience but also the information collected and summarized by WANO.

Ignalina NPP's management underlined that SOER 2011-2 recommendations are well-timed and effective. In its practice, INPP continues using information received from WANO and it is interested in further cooperation.

In the letter it is also stated that Ignalina NPP is prepared to create and lead the Group of Nuclear Power Facilities Decommissioning. Also the initiative to create Ignalina Carbon Competence Center was introduced.
