Meetings of Ignalina Programme Monitoring Committee were held on 23 November in Vilnius and on 24 November at the State Enterprise Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (INPP). These meetings were dedicated to the assessment of the progress of INPP decommissioning process, as well as the efficiency of human resources, time and funds planning and management processes.

Representatives of the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Finance, European Commission, Office of the Prime Minister, Central Project Management Agency, State Enterprise Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant, State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate, Radioactive Waste Management Agency took part in the meetings.

During the meeting on 24 November, participants assessed planning, management and monitoring processes of power plant's equipment and buildings dismantling and decontamination projects, as well as the efficiency of energy saving tools. The implementation progress of dismantling and decontamination projects, project B19 (Landfill Facility for Short-lived Very Low and Intermediate Level Short-lived Radioactive Waste) and project B25/1 (Near Surface Repository for Low and Intermediate Level Short-Lived Radioactive waste) was assessed.

European Commission representatives commended the progress which has been made by the enterprise in implementing projects, especially planning and implementation of the first INPP dismantling and decontamination project B9/0 (INPP Building 117/1 Equipment Decontamination and Dismantling Project Development), which was successfully completed in October. According to European Commission representatives, this project could be a good example of proper planning and management.

Also during the meeting the process of enterprise's staff requalifying retraining and training for new tasks was presented. Exceptional attention was paid to the unique project UP01 (INPP Unit 1 and 2 Reactor Dismantling and Decontamination Feasibility Study) which is being implemented by INPP. UP01 was initiated as an internal project which will provide INPP personnel an opportunity to maximally use their knowledge and experience.

Ignalina Programme is the financial instrument of the European Union intended to support Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant decommissioning and the measures related to it in the sector of the Lithuanian Energy.
