MaxiMarathon 2006 in Lithuania

Lithuania is a Central European country on the Baltic Sea shore. It's area of 65 000 square km, population 3.7 millions, capitol - Vilnius city. Lithuania surrounded by Latvia, Byelorussia, Poland and Kaliningrad region of Russian Federation. Climate is semi continental. It is a country of lakes and forests so national color of Lithuanian sportsmen's dress is green. Since May 2004 Lithuania recognized as European Union member.

The only state nuclear enterprise is Ignalina NPP with 2 RBMK 1500 type reactors. Recently it is announced that both units of INPP will stop operation in 2009 as a requirement of Lithuania's entry into EU. Actually the first unit is in so called "cold reserve" since January 1 2005. But second Unit still working and we vote for Lithuania as a Nuclear State in future. Some politicians on the very high level - up to the President - declared their positive attitude on this point. (They spoke about new reactors construction and actual work of Unit 2 prolongation). Also one could find information in mass media materials that, for example, French government could help Lithuania to develop its nuclear industry, AREVA group agree to make this work. But no agreements have been achieved until now. So we believe that MaxiMarathon being held in our country in 2006 will strongly help to move the question from the dead point.

Ignalina NPP Independent Trade Union, Ignalina Youth Nuclear Association and Visaginas Nuclear Forum decided to unite their efforts to make this event true. Ignalina NPP's administration supports such activity. As we know, the Ministry, a lot of politicians, majors, public figures have a positive reaction on this point as well.

Lithuania is a beautiful country with pleasant nature and people. And we will do our best to make your participation in this event comfortable and unforgettable.
