Decommissioning project of Maišiagala RWSF was approved

On February 19, the State Enterprise Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (INPP) successfully completed the process of approximation of the decommissioning project of the Maišiagala Radioactive Waste Storage Facility (RWSF) with state institutions and enterprises.

The approximation of the decommissioning project with state institutions and enterprises started on January 26, after the completion of its expert assessment and the receipt of the general expert report on the decommissioning project of the storage facilities. This will allow INPP to announce the public procurement of preparatory works for decommissioning of Maišiagala RWSF structures. It will also include the purchase of construction and installation works for temporary structures required to prepare for the removal of radioactive waste from Maišiagala RWSF.

The decommissioning project of Maišiagala RWSF was approved by 10 institutions within 25 calendar days: State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate, State Border Guard Service, Lithuanian Geological Survey, Fire and Rescue Department, Radiation Protection Center, National Public Health Center, National Energy Regulatory Council, State Labor Inspectorate, The Environmental Projects Management Agency, and the Energy Distribution Operator (ESO). Approximation with state institutions was carried out in accordance with the Government of the Republic of Lithuania 2002-12-03 Resolution No. 1873 "On the Approval of the Description of the Procedure for the Coordination of the Construction Project of a Nuclear Power Facility".
