Demolition of 330 kV power lines has begun

On August 4, The Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (INPP) has received a construction permit from the Visaginas Municipality Administration for the demolition of 330kV overhead power lines (hereinafter – power lines). Demolition works started on the 16th of August. The demolition works are being carried out by the LC contractor “Kauno Tiltai”. On 10 May, a public procurement contract was signed for the design and works for the demolition of 330 kV power lines.

Most of the 330kV overhead power lines are built on the site of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant, outside the monitoring area and the ionizing radiation zone, while the second part of the transmission lines are built in the controlled area, also outside the ionizing radiation zone. The demolition work will be carried out in two phases, the first phase scheduled to be completed by the end of 2022 and the completion of the second phase scheduled for 2024.

All work under the Contract, including the preparation of the demolition project and handover of the construction work, shall be completed within 230 (two hundred and thirty) calendar days from the entry into force of the Contract, excluding the interruption period between Phases I and II.

The project is funded by the EU Ignalina programme.

The Ignalina NPP plans to demolish 59 structures by 2027.
