From 2022, Ignalina NPP will purchase green energy

On 3 December, SE Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (SE INPP) signed an agreement with UAB Ignitis for the purchase of green energy. According to the concluded contract, it is planned to purchase up to 80,600,000 kWh of electricity within a period of 12 months, which according to the terms of the concluded contract must be produced only from renewable electricity sources.

With the decision to use green energy, SE INPP contributes to the sustainable procurement policy pursued by the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Lithuania and the Public Procurement Office, which, in accordance with the goals set by the Government, aims to be environmentally friendly from 2023 onwards.

"We are delighted that, as a major consumer of electricity, we can contribute to tackling climate change, protecting the environment, using resources more sustainably and achieving national sustainability goals. Electricity produced from renewable energy sources is the cleanest and most environmentally neutral, therefore the decision to purchase only green electricity will significantly contribute to the Enterprise's commitment to reduce the negative impacts of its operations, ”said Donatas Juodpusis, INPP Sustainable Development Manager.
