Ignalina NPP hosted the first seminar “Reactor Dismantling Experience”

On 18 October 2018 State Enterprise Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (hereinafter referred to as Ignalina NPP) hosted the first one-day seminar on “Reactor dismantling experience”. These are consultative seminars aimed at sharing of information, knowledge and experiences with regard to reactor dismantling optioneering, concept design and environmental assessment report development issues, as well as at presentation of Ignalina NPP reactor dismantling project expectations and challenges. Ignalina NPP, while being proactive in preparatory works for one of the most important decommissioning stages and emphasizing the need for the highest work execution quality, intends to employ a highly skilled engineer consultant.

“We are delighted with the extensive interest of companies in Ignalina NPP RBMK-1500 reactor dismantling project all around the world and we expect that this seminar will become a key to the successful throughout assessment of all the technical and financial challenges of the upcoming project”, - said Audrius Kamienas, the Director General of Ignalina NPP to the seminar participants.

Seminars will be attended by representatives of Spain, France, Great Britain, Ukraine, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Russia, the Netherlands, Sweden, Lithuania, and other countries, as well as representatives of the European Commission, the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Lithuania, the Central Project Management Agency (CPMA), the State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate (VATESI), the Lithuanian Energy Institute, the Science and Technology Center of Physics and Technology, and Ignalina NPP itself.

At the first seminar of this session Ignalina NPP specialists presented the relevant progress of decommissioning projects achieved, scope and volume of dismantling works performed, reviewed the main parameters of the reactors and provided radiological characterization data. Representatives of the Companies introduced the experience gained in reactor dismantling projects, reactor dismantling optioneering, concept design and environmental assessment report development. The CPMA familiarized all the participants with a “Framework for Implementation”.

Further seminars for representatives of different countries will take place on 25 October, 8 November, and 15 November.

Ignalina NPP expects that all concerned parties would submit their proposals clarifying their experience, anticipated role within the project, limits of liability and conditions to be fulfilled in order to ensure successful implementation of one of the most important Ignalina NPP decommissioning project.

At the completion of all the seminars, Ignalina NPP will publish the relevant information and answers to raised questions on the website of the State Enterprise INPP.
