Informational announcement about the event at INPP

On 12 May, at 16:15, in the “hot” chamber of SE Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (INPP) Unit 2, during the underwater operation of transferring damaged spent fuel assemblies to a special basket, the top of the assembly got loose from the holder and slipped into a special basket intended for this purpose from approximately 1.5 m height.

During this event, the level of exposure of employees and pollution of the premises with radionuclides did not exceed the established permissible norms. This event did not affect the provision of nuclear safety, the work continues as usual. This event was tentatively rated 0 / below the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale (INES).

INPP conducts an analysis of the event to identify measures, the implementation of which will prevent such events in the future.

The State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) was informed about the incident.
