Regarding the temporary work by a minimal regime

With the aim of implementing additional safety, work organization, process management and other technical measures, the work at SE Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (INPP) from 6 April will be temporary carried out by the minimal working regime with suspending the certain production activities.

The enterprise has taken this decision in response to the increased and complex situation regarding the spread of COVID-19, with the aim of the strengthening of employees’ safety, ensuring of smooth activity of the enterprise and continuation of work.

At the nearest time, the enterprise will develop and implement additional technical and organizational measures which will strengthen employees’ safety and will allow to prepare for the work under the changed conditions due to the spread of COVID-19. It should be noted that a large number of older people are working on the main production processes, such as spent nuclear fuel management, solid radioactive waste management and other.

The enterprise feels a responsibility to the employees and the public on the safe and timely implementation of decommissioning and radioactive waste management work. Transition to the temporary minimal regime will not affect the work schedules and projects progress.

“The specifics of the work at Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant is such that we all should be ready to work under other conditions not only for the next month, but for the much longer period. We should organize our work in such a way that the situation with COVID-19 will not affect the ongoing work schedules and the implementation of decommissioning projects. We should organize this responsibly, we do it now and will continue further. It is understandable that the situation is not usual and simple, but the enterprise is making every effort to find the best solution to keep our employees safe and continue the work”, said Audrius Kamienas, Director General of INPP.

During the temporary execution of the work by the minimal regime the INPP facilities safety will continue to be ensured at the highest level as usual.
