The Act of Handover and Acceptance of the MRWSF construction site is signed

On August 24, the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (hereinafter referred to as the INPP) and the tender winner for the Maišiagala radioactive waste storage facility preparatory works for the demolition of the Maišiagala Repository (hereinafter referred to as "Maišiagala RWS" or " MRWSF "), Ltd Ekobana (hereinafter referred to as the "Contractor"), signed the handover and acceptance act for the construction of the MRWSF area.

The Ministry of the Environment of the Republic of Lithuania's Environmental Project Management Agency was also present at the signing of the handover and acceptance act for the construction site, the representatives of Ltd Tecos (the developer of the MRWSF demolition project (detailed design stage)).

According to Mindaugas Gustas and Donatas Michalkevičiaus, representatives of the Environmental Project Management Agency of the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Lithuania, this is a significant milestone in the implementation of the project, which, once successfully completed, will allow the INPP to start work on the removal of radioactive waste from the repository.

The site shall be handed over exclusively for the purpose of carrying out the construction works specified in the contract with the Contractor. The contractor will carry out the construction and installation of temporary structures necessary to prepare for the removal of radioactive waste from the Maišiagala RWS. The scope of the works will include the installation of the necessary infrastructure for the site: the construction and installation of temporary structures, engineering networks and communications. Within the scope of the prepared demolition design, a temporary building made of aluminum profiles and multilayer panels (“caisson”) is planned - a building of a nuclear power facility, in which the Contractor will have to install ventilation, radiation control, lighting, fire alarm and other systems.

The contractual obligations require the Contractor to complete the infrastructure works at the Maišiagala RWS site by 5 April 2023.

The project is funded by the European Union Structural Funds Cohesion Fund.
