Virtual tour of Ignalina NPP launched

The Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant has moved its sites into virtual space to ensure that everyone can take a tour of this special Lithuanian facility. The virtual tour will allow visitors to walk independently around the Ignalina NPP site from anywhere in the world.

"Each year, we receive an average of 6,000 visitors. With the pandemic, we were faced with the challenge of welcoming visitors, so we started to think about new and modern approaches to spread the word about the site and the work being done there. Not a secret that today some of the areas are no longer existing, and in the future the Ignalina NPP will be replaced by a brownfield site with repositories and storage areas.  This virtual tour is not only a unique experience but also a good opportunity for everyone to feel the atomic pulse without leaving home, as well as a good possibility for us to preserve the atomic memory and information about this very special facility in Lithuania", - said Natalija Survila-Glebova, Head of Communication of the INPP.

On a virtual tour, visitors will visit and learn about:

  • The Reactor
  • The Unit control panel
  • The Spent fuel storage pools
  • The Hot cell
  • The Turbine Hall
  • Radiation monitoring control
  • Radioactivity measurement installations
  • Spent fuel storage facilities
  • Solid radioactive waste management and storage facilities

The virtual tour of the INPP was created by "Iron cat" Ltd.
