2213 project. INPP Unit 2 Turbine Hall Equipment Decontamination and Dismantling (D&D) Project license documents development, Project B9/1(2)

Preparation of INPP Unit 2 Turbine Hall Equipment Decontamination and Dismantling Project (B9-1(2))

General data on the Project:

According to the Final Decommissioning Plan of the Ignalina NPP and the Ignalina NPP Decommissioning Megaproject, operation of the major part of the INPP Unit 2 turbine hall equipment will be completed and this equipment will be isolated. In the future, this equipment will not be used; it will be dismantled and transported outside Unit G-2.

Objective of the Project:

Dismantling, decontamination, shredding and transportation of Unit 2 turbine hall insulated equipment outside Unit G-2.

When making the necessary modifications, it is necessary to leave the existing systems, required to maintain the G-2 unit in the other decommissioning phases, in operation (ventilation, alarm and fire detection, domestic fire water supply, water heating, electricity supply, lighting, sewage collection and pumping, 6 kg/cm2 dry compressed air exhaust, chemically desalinated water and further treated condensate systems).

Scope of the Project

The Project includes preparation of a set of technical documentation that would allow the dismantling and decontamination of the decommissioned equipment of Unit 2 turbine hall and management of the generated waste as efficiently and safely as possible.

In order to obtain a permit to perform dismantling and decontamination works, it is necessary to coordinate with VATESI and other regulatory authorities of the Republic of Lithuania the documents prepared within the framework of Project B9-1 (2):

  • Technological Design;
  • Safety Justification;
  • Environmental Impact Assessment Report.

Upon implementation of Project B9-1 (2), about 18 thousand tons of equipment will be dismantled and decontaminated in the turbine hall of Unit 2, most of which are turbines and turbine system parts, pumps, fittings and pipelines.

Contractor: the Project is being implemented by INPP.

Project implementation process:

The Project implementation started on 14 September 2011. Information on the main stages of the Project implementation and the current situation is provided in the table below:
